ＴＯＵＣＨＩＮＧ　ＦＲＩＥＮＤＳ

“夢の画家”トーマス・モア氏の個展を本ギャラリーにて開催！！

トム氏は1944年に米国テネシー州に生まれ、40年間にわたり画家及び武術家として活動を続け、現在同州スワニー市にて同じく画家であるミンギバ・リア氏と暮らしている。

この度は友人の紹介を通しての初めての沖縄訪問となる。今回の個展“Touching Friends”はトム氏の最近の作品であり、「来てくれた皆さんに何かを感じ取ってもらえれば」と、古き友人及び新しき友人たちとの出会いの場になればと同氏は期待しています。

The people whose faces I choose to draw are people whom for a variety of reasons , I love.
The act of drawing is an act of touching. It is always an intimately private experience that dares to make itself public.
I never know if this intimacy is successfully being conveyed to the viewer. For this artist the success of a work is measured by the extent I have “Felt” the touch of the person whose face I am touching with my pencil.
The making of art is as difficult as the discovery of truth. The privacy I sometimes feel is almost painful. I humbly share these moments with you. My new Friends.
Please enjoy them on any level you can. If anything about them “Touches” you , I will be most pleased.

私が描くことにした人々は、様々な理由によって私が愛している人々です。描くという行為は触れるという行為です。それは常に、敢えて自己を公開する親密な個人的体験です。
この親しみが見る人にちゃんと伝わっているのか、私には分かりません。私という芸術家にとっては、鉛筆で触れる顔の主を“感じとった”程度によって作品の出来が決まります。芸術の制作というのは真実の発見と同じように難しいものです。
私が時に感じる孤独感は苦痛のようなものです。

今回、沖縄でこのように皆さんと共に過ごせることに感謝しております。
私の新しい友人の皆さん、どうぞお好きなように私の作品を楽しんで下さい。もしそのうちの何かがあなたの琴線に“触れる”ようでしたら、喜ばしいことです。
